Environmental Monitoring and European Integration: An Open Lecture for 11th-Graders

Today, 11th-grade students from Kalush Lyceum No. 10 had the opportunity to attend an informative and highly relevant open lecture as part of the Erasmus+ project, “Monitoring of Environmental Objects in the Context of European Integration” (101127251-MEOEU).
During the lecture, titled “European and Ukrainian Experience in Calculating Air Quality Indices: Modern Environmental Information Systems,” the students learned how air quality is assessed in the EU and Ukraine, why reliable information about the state of the environment is crucial, and how European environmental standards influence the development of Ukraine’s environmental policy.
🔎 Key topics covered in the open lecture:
🌬️ Air Quality Index (AQI) — how pollution levels are determined, and which EU approaches Ukraine is adopting for environmental monitoring.
💻 Environmental platforms and digital tools:
*EcoSystem — a national platform for environmental information;
*SaveEcoBot — a tool for tracking environmental threats, radiation levels, and fires;
*LUN Misto AIR, Save Dnipro, and EcoCity — community-based air quality monitoring systems;
*Radiation and Smog Alarm — a service providing real-time alerts regarding chemical and radiation threats.
Special emphasis was placed on every citizen’s right to a safe environment, the transparency of environmental data, and the importance of informed public participation in nature conservation. 💚 Engaging examples and modern tools offered a fresh perspective on chemistry lessons—viewing them through the lens of contemporary environmental challenges and European best practices!
Such sessions help young people not only acquire new knowledge but also develop a responsible attitude toward the environment. I hope that the Lyceum graduates will become ambassadors for environmental values and conscious change! 🌍
